ARTIST PROFILE
- John Ruth lives and works in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
- 1970 - Accepted at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland
- 1970's - Exhibited in NZ Academy Exhibitions in Wellington
- 1984 - Saw his first major solo exhibition at the Hastings Cultural Centre (now the Hawkes Bay Exhibition Centre)
- 1985 - Joined "Spectrum" art group & exhibited with them for several years
- 1987 - Received Merit Award - Norsewear Exhibition
- "Time Out" for several years raising a family
- 1997 - Solo Exhibition, Vidals Winery, Hastings
- 1999 - A selection of Art works exhibited at the Community Arts Centre, Hastings. Also commissioned to produce a 'millennium painting' which featured on wine labels for Peak Restaurant, Havelock North
- 2000 - Peak Paintings - Solo exhibition, Peak Restaurant, Havelock North
- 2001 - Exhibited a series of Paintings of Casa Lavanda at the Electra Gallery, Waipukurau
- 2001 - 2002 - was guest artist at the Otane Arts & Crafts exhibition. Worked on individual commissions
- From June 2003 to July 2004 - worked & travelled abroad for 12 months, primarily in Great Britain, Portugal, Spain & Italy which has provided much of the inspiration for his most recent art works
- 2005 - John made the challenging but exciting decision to give up his 'day job' to paint full-time from January 2006 onwards
- 2006 - Exhibited at Emerge Gallery, Wellington. Art work selected for Hawkes Bay Review
- 2007 - Exhibited at Millwood Gallery, Wellington. Art works selected for Hawkes Bay Review and by Oxted Resources for 2008 "Save the Children" Greeting Cards. Exhibition of "seascapes" at Red Peach Gallery, Ahuriri, Napier
